Auto rotation altitude above 150 feet and forward momentum mean enough stored energy to execute a controlled crash landing. Most dangerousness thing for helo's is hovering or low altitude.
lol you can do them a lot lower than that. There's a certain airspeed/altitude combinations that make for "unfavorable" autorotative conditions.

I knew Massad Ayoob was a tough guy but now he's a REALLY tough guy. I bet he crashed on purpose so he could teach others to survive helicopter crashes, he's the man!

Me too. What part were you in?

Mostly FtP and PSL. I worked the 2004 hurricanes there and I had claims from Vero to Jupiter.

The traffic sucked and there wasn't anything interesting to do. I did go to Okeechobee once, now that was a hoot. They had the southern twang and everything there. It felt like I was back in Oklahoma.
