The school bus was traveling west on Highway 21 at about 2 p.m. local time when a concrete truck "veered into the school bus's lane and struck the school bus," Sgt. Deon Cockrell with the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a news briefing Friday evening.

That sucks. Mass casualty events are really heartbreaking, especially with kids involved.

I was first on scene of a tour bus crash (like a Greyhound-style bus) on top of a mountain pass in Colorado in 2001 I think. 40 something people on the bus, mostly teenagers, coming from a church retreat in Buena Vista, I think. We had to load many of the injured on another bus that I escorted all the way to a hospital in Colorado Springs. The driver was also hospitalized and was later arrested for Careless Driving w/Injury (40 something counts).
