I've been running XP on the same machine for almost 5 years with zero problems. Games, Office, web browsing. You name it and it's up and used almost every day.
My work PC also has XP on it and I've been used the same one for 3 years before getting a new one which also has XP on it (IT won't upgrade to 7 until one of the aps we use becomes compatible with it).
XP is solid as a rock and I imagine 7 is too if my wife's PC is a good indicator.
