While at QuikTrip soda fountain, I spotted a woman walking through the store; she was very attractive in the way I like women (age-appropriate, very slender, angular facial features, etc.), and she carried herself in a confident manner. No wedding ring - I checked. When I walked past her on my way to the counter, I flashed my best smile and said "Hi!" She didn't even respond; I figured as attractive as she was, she probably encounters that sort of attention every day, and just brushes it off. Ah well, I paid for my drink and left.

Brutal ending, OP. I was all like "Wow. He totally got a date with her by using a two-letter word? Oh, he totally didn't."

Met a significant other in a chance encounter? Nah. Met a couple girls I went on a couple bad dates with in chance encounter? Yo.

Is the internet a chance encounter?

No, but you're certainly taking a chance with these encounters. You know how I know.

One night she asked me to go out, a week later I moved in. Married now for 17 years.

Nope. My wife & I became best friends long before either of us considered dating the other. We spent the first several months of knowing eachother correcting people and saying "Nah, we're just good friends." And about the time everyone was convinced things started to change and we started dating.

Met my wife in church of all places.
Been to every bar, club, whatever for many years.
Never met the right one.
I started going just to try the church thing out and met my wife after a few weeks.
She wouldn't go out with me but she would talk on the phone. That's all it took.
Things kinda changed after that.

We've been married for 12 yrs and have 4 kidos.
Couldn't be happier.
We all go to church now.

I met my wife on the internet before meeting on the internet was cool. We met 16 years ago in an AOL chatroom (before unlimited usage and not a dating chatroom either). She was 17 and I was 19. We met in person 2 weeks later, married 4 years later and just celebrated our 12th anniversary.

Ha, good answer. The stories here have been good so far, but I was talking more along the lines of encountering someone in person whom you knew you'd probably never see again unless you took action. No introductions by a third party, no mutual friends/acquaintances.

If the woman in QT had turned to say hi back to me, who knows how that might have turned out.

Met my wife real late one night. Me & my buddies were driving down I-44 around 2am. We passed her & her friend & was doing all the waving back & forth & stuff. They were getting off on I-240 & we needed to keep going on I-44. At the very last moment I decided to follow (not stalk, lol) them. Ended up following them to her apartment. They were trying to get rid of us & said they were going to eat at Taco Bell. At the last moment I asked her for her phone number & she gave it to me. After our 1st date , she said she NEVER gives out her number, if anything she gets the number then has the option to call the guy. Said she didn't know why she gave it to me. That was over 12 years ago. If I didn't take the action, I probably would have never seen her again!
