More B.S. from "you know who"

Admission price sucked. It has been rising faster than the price of food.

This. I don't know how much the price of admission is within Mr. Metcalf's control, but I can remember - and it wasn't THAT long ago - when it was only $6 and many of the tables were held by private individuals with personal collections to sell. Negotiation was possible (and expected), and sometimes even trades could be made, and people were friendly and swapped stories and tips. After the last Metcalf show I went to where the admission fee was $10, many of the tables were held by firearms dealers looking to make a profit, and other tables were held by vendors whose wares had nothing to do with firearms, I was turned off to the idea of attending any more of his shows. Or other small shows for that matter, until SuperDave came along and reminded me that yes, it IS possible to have a show like in the good old days.

Other than this, I have no personal beef with Warren Metcalf.

Isn't that enough? I think that is what there promoting here "don't go to his shows. I have always heard that if you straddle the fence all you end up with is a ripped crotch! The fact that the guy can't live and let live is enough for me. Obviously he feels threatened and realizes that quality of his shows are lacking, but if there is no alternative then more people will come, however Mr. Books I'm sure your intelligent enough to have figured that out for yourself. I will give you though "way to stir that pot"

The sponsors are in business to make money, I don't fault them for going to Warren's shows.

What turned everyone against him in the first place? (Before he wrote the nasty email about us)

There were questions about his pricing and transparency (i.e. raising prices at the door compared to advertised price), charging for parking, I thinkoffering discounts for service personnel then reneging if not in uniform, quality of vendors (too many trinkets/dolls, not enough guns). So it's not just that they don't like his policies, but he said one thing and then did the other (allegedly, as I never attended the shows), so one could not even determine what the policies were.

These are not my complaints necessarily, just aggregating what I have read here.

I haven't setup or attended one of the M shows in well over two years now.

That said, I don't fault any dealers who do setup there or anyone who attends. People make their own decisions based on their own circumstances or needs.

I'm just glad that we have folks like superdave who have seen the opportunity to capture the business of those who prefer to look elsewhere.

He's also a banned member of this board for joining and generally calling folks out and acting like a horses ass. Even with that, and the rising prices... if I still needed something badly enough that I knew would be at his shows, I would have attended (up until the letters and bs he put Dave through). At that point, he's on the ban-list and so is "The Grand American Arms" show for the bait and switch pricing BS they pulled.

That leaves me with Wannamachers (bleh - hate those crowds), and what... RK?

Now Super Dave's show is an alternate to those and I'm all for him (I just wish he'd have one closer - like in Bixby, or Muskogee).

I don't go to gun shows anymore, the deals were all gone 20+ years ago, so I don't really have a dog in the fight.

The only time I've been in the last 15 years was 2 years ago when I was looking for something a little weird that hadn't been produced in about 30 years.

I didn't know about the alleged "bait and switch" tactics. If that's true, that really sucks.

Anyway, Dave seems to be doing very well and that is a GOOD thing.

I will do business with sponsors that set up at his shows. Can't fault them for wanting to make money, business is business and I don't expect people running a business to go broke. But I won't do business with them at one of his shows.

Who is this Metcalf guy? I thought SuperDave's and Wannamachers were the only gun shows in the state...

Nuff said.... SD I can't wait till December as all of those shows priced me out years ago.
