Does anyone know of an attorney in NE OK (Around Tulsa) that specializes or has a proven track record in self defense situations. It is probably a good idea to have contact info for someone like this if god forbid you should ever need it. I have heard enough nightmares over good guys that had their lives ruined over justified use of force. I just don't know where to look for someone like this other than this board.

This is because self defense law is a minor and unprofitable aspect of jurisprudence.

Most lawyers know nothing about self defense law.

My advice on selecting a lawyer from the pool out there is in one of the stickies.

Thanks for some action in my post guys, I was starting to wonder what the deal was with the lack of responses. It would be a horrible situation to have to use a weapon in self defense, and if God forbid it ever happens I want my family and myself to have a checkoff sheet on what do do while I am more than likely spending at least a night or two in jail even over a clean shoot.

An FOP lawyer is generally not a good choice IMO. FOP lawyers are good because they have knowledge of the things that endanger police officers legally and know the players involved.

A well-regarded local criminal attorney is my best suggestion. Generally I prefer folks who have had prior prosecutorial experience.

Another option is Marty Hayes' Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network.

Can an OKShooters attorney tell me what would be required to become familiar with (and possibly specialize in) self defense law?

I was able to read the OK SDA and a fair bit of the relevant case law in one evening. It's a small and unprofitable field but I can't imagine that it would take long for a competent litigator to get up to speed on it if they had to; if this is true, it lends support to Michael Brown's suggestion that you just find a good criminal defense lawyer.
