You can also search an attorney through OSCN.net and look at their case history. That's what I did, and you have no idea how many attorneys have judgments and charges against them. I read one guy's criminal law blog and thought he was fair and impressive. Then went and searched his cases and found that he'd been sued for negligence in defending one of his clients. Needless to say, I kept moving :).

My wife has PrePaid Legal thru her work to get references or advice for whatever. They have helped me in a few instances with advice even though we have a family member who is our long time all purpose/business lawyer who works with us on almost everything.

I had an instance a few years ago where I almost had to shoot my backside neighbors huge pitbull who had dug under my chainlink fence, come into my yard, had one of my much smaller dogs pinned in a corner of my garage fighting, then lunged at me when I was working at splitting them up with a broomstick. I had my gun in my other hand just in case, but didnt want to shoot the dog unless I was attacked or it tore into my dog. I managed to split em up some how and chased it towards home all the while beatin the **** out of it all the way back to its own yard. My pu ssy neighbor came outside and just watched from his porch doing nothing. Didnt yell at his dog. Nothing. And he damn sure didnt say one word to me about ****ing his stupid dog up. I then stood there and called the cops out to see if I would have had the right to shoot it. They came out and warned the guy that yes I did have the right to shoot his dog and he should be glad I showed restraint in not shooting it. He still never said **** to me. Still. I wasnt fully convinced in the local PDs advice. After talking to them I called my wife, then our family/business lawyer, and then I called PPL and they gave me some good advice before putting me in contact with a lawyer who knew a little more about what to do in the future. I just wanted advice for any future troubles with this neighbor or his dog. PPL was very helpful and even gave me a couple of guys who they recommended who had experience in self defense with a gun cases. Later that day I set about building 2 new fences, one new chainlink facing them with about half a foot underground of fence and rock and a 6' cedar fence on our side between us and these people who I never knew before or have ever socialized with since. It could have gotten ugly but thankfully didnt.

You just never know when some **** is going to happen. I see nothing wrong with looking for legal advice and then having representation at the ready BEFORE you ever get in to any trouble. When a legal issue youre involved in is anything to do with a gun or using a gun, then IMO having a lawyer that you know that you can call if something comes up seems to me like great comfort. Great idea for a thread.
