I live in a fairly new established housing addition in Moore. The HOA have started posting property damage, cars and truck break ins, tailgate theft etc.
The HOA want gates installed and they want security monitored you name it.
The problem with gated community is the city will not replace lights and they wont fix roads. The problem most people want solved is a rotation of members to take
fire watch and drive around patrolling.
What do some of you all do where you live???
Oh cant have cameras at your residence if you are a fellon. (I am not a felon) :)

Why can't you have cameras if your are a felon? Never heard that one.

I live in a gated community that is new and still in construction stage. Seems the gate is broken often. I believe it is because the construction crews break it frankly. However, the city does street repairs as well as lights here in OKC. Not sure why it's different in Moore. We have had few issues with property crime but nothing is fool proof I figure. Every measure of protection is just a measure all adding up to a hopefully decent recipe.

I like the gates.
I like watch patrols with the little magnet sign on the car that rotates. No zimmerman stuff though.
I like Cameras at the gates and on the house.
I like to know neighbors and nosy ones at that. (When we were building, the builder got a call from our neighbor sayin there was a strange old truck at the house. It was near midnight! That was me in my old Dodge pickup! That guy rocks!)

Regarding the whole thing you heard about lights and roads, make sure you get the truth from the horses mouth (ie the city/state) a lot of hearsay floats around the HOA.

From the state law in Oklahoma the cameras used as a monitoring measure if you are a felon is a big no no.
Need to reasearch but im 90% sure. :)
As far as everyone in a community / addition people here are getting really tired of scumbags.
My family and I have been fortunate nothing has happened to us.

Been watching the news the last couple of months and the cameras have been solving a bunch of crimes I am sure that most of you saw the guy that backed up and hooked up to a trailer and drove off they busted him because of the camera and there were a bunch of guys breaking in homes I think that it was in Moore they walked up on the front pourch and kicked the door in the camera on the pourch caught them and they busted them and they had been doing it for months it just took one camera to catch them I am thinking of putting them on my house Havent heard about not being able to have them because of being a felon

I never heard any thing about a convicted felon not being able to have any security cameras on their property.... unless it may have something to do with preventing child molesters / sex offenders watching kids or drug dealers from watching for LEO's.

My city will install a street light on an existing utility pole for $8 a month or for $15 a month they will set a pole whereever you want it. I have one in the front of my house next to my driveway and one out back by my workshop. The city supplies the electricity and changes the bulbs as needed for the low monthly fee. You might want to check to see if something like that is available in your area. The charge is just added to our electic bill each month.

After the Zmmerman crap... I wouldn't be a part of a 'official' watch group-- way to much liability. If you have a carry permit, it makes you more of a armed security guard, than a armed private citizen protecting your own property. But I and my neighbors keep a pretty good watch around the neighborhood anyway. We try to keep the loud music and speeding up & down the street under control.. and call the police to investigate all strangers walking or biking in the area [especially after dark]..... that keeps alot of the late night traffic under control. The police have often times recognized potential thieves that they have run out of other neighborhoods.. who were out looking for new territory to hit.

There for a while, during the day we were getting a lot of door-to-door peddlers working in pairs trying to get into the houses of our elderly neighbors. Some would intimidate the elderly or give them some crap about their social security being in trouble to get inside the house and rob them. One would distract the elderly person whle the other would rumage through the house. So now we call the cops to check all peddler / salesman licenses.

Main thing is to get everyone in the community to always press charges whenever the little thugs & vandals are caught red handed. So many times the victim is afraid to press charges because of the fear of retaliation.. they just want to let the insurance cover the damage and end up paying higher rates a lot of times.
