Known commercially as ALON, transparent "aluminum" armor is made of aluminum oxynitride, a chemical compound of aluminum, oxygen and nitrogen.
The chemical compound more resembles glass than metallic aluminum.

I threw transparent aluminum in there as kind of a joke. Transparent aluminum is a new state of matter, one of those life imitating art things.

The ballistic material could be world changing. It goes from solid to liquid and back to solid under extreme pressure, such as being hit with a bullet. There are lot of different ways that could be used.
