Finally got my 2nd SKS out of lay-a-way from the great folks at Sooner State Pawn. I broke it completely down and spent nearly 3 hours detailing it and cleaning out the cosmoline. It is an arsenal /26\ and dates to 1980. (The final year that arsenal produced the SKS.) It is 100% # matching. The numbered parts are: stock, receiver, bolt, bolt carrier, dust cover, trigger guard, magazine, gas tube, and gas piston.
It is missing the bayonet but does have a complete unaltered lug. The stock is wood but the handguard is bakalite. It appears this was common during the last 1-2 years of production for /26\. The bore is pristine and the gas piston shows no signs of wear or even use. The bluing is 95%+ but the stock does show it was carried a lot.
This one I'm not going to alter or refinish. Other than to perhaps replace the missing bayonet.
