Oklahoma: Senate Committee Passes Right to Keep and Bear Arms Provision
Posted on April 2, 2014

Today, an important improvement to Oklahoma’s constitutional Right to Keep and Bear Arms provision passed unanimously in the Senate Rules Committee. House Joint Resolution 1026 now goes to the full state Senate for its consideration. HJR 1026 is a critical improvement that provides the strongest possible protection for your gun rights, guaranteeing your Right to Keep and Bear Arms for future generations. All proposed restrictions to any of your fundamental rights should be subject to a standard that ensures the strongest possible protection for that right, and your fundamental right to keep and bear arms is no exception.
Please contact your state Senator TODAY and urge him or her to support HJR 1026! Click http://www.oksenate.gov/FindMyLegislature.aspx to identify which state Senator represents you.

Opposition has arisen to HJR1026. Higher Ed has recognized the possibility that HJR1026 could be interpreted by the courts to require campus carry be allowed in some form. We cannot give a definitive answer as to how the courts would rule on the issue, but it is possible. This means that the debate and vote on the resolution may be closer in the Senate than it was in the House. We have been working with the Senate author, Senator Treat, to secure the votes necessary to pass the resolution. We need you to call or email your Senator and ask them to support HJR1026. The switchboard number for the State Senate is (405) 524-0126.

SMS (or Veggie Meat. . .I can't remember which is the attorney) will be along in a bit to explain "strict scrutiny" to you.

The "strict scrutiny standard" was applied in Korematsu v. United States , in which the court ruled that the internment of Japanese Americans in WWII was valid. Sorry, I have no faith in government to take the side of liberty over "security".
