I think these cops should just ask themselves what would Andy or Barney do?
Nope. Because Barney was likely to shoot someone. That's why he was only allowed one bullet, and could only load it if he really needed it. Which, in these times, would get a lot of cops killed. Could have gotten Barney killed at least once.

LA and OKC aren't Mayberry, either. Never were.

This is true.
Now I'm going to go to the other side. The police chief in the tiny town of Pond Creek Ok was shot and killed by someone that was having mental issues and was in the process of being arrested.
We have a farm near there and have met several OSA members at Greasy Steves restaurant, so I'm through there all the time.
The town was like Mayberry. Small and everyone knew everyone.
After that incident, when passing through there the previously casually dressed LEO were in level three vests and armed to the teeth, on edge.
Sheriff deputies the same. Every agency in the area went LA vs Mayberry level because you never know when the opponent is going to go nuts.

True that. I lived in a small town in Western Colorado from the summer of 1971 to the summer of 1972. Didn't have police. Had a Sheriff. No deputy. Worst trouble in town was me and a kid named Chris getting in fist fights. He put boxing gloves on us, and let us have at it after the 3rd or forth time we got into it at school. After I left and went back to Cali, maybe a few years later, somebody murdered the Catholic Priest in town. After that they got a small police department. I only made it back maybe a dozen times in the next 20 odd years. Would see police cars in town. More than one. Haven't been back since 2008. Isn't anywhere that's Mayberry anymore.

My Grandpa knew better than to shove a cop , Do you think it would be OK for your Grandpa to do that ? I find it novel everyone is missing the fact you don't lay hands on a cop . Right wrong or in between, its actually felony.

"21 OK Stat § 649 (2023)

A. Every person who, without justifiable or excusable cause, knowingly commits any assault upon the person of a police officer, sheriff, deputy sheriff, highway patrolman, corrections personnel, or state peace officer employed or duly appointed by any state governmental agency to enforce state laws while the officer is in the performance of his or her duties is punishable by imprisonment in the county jail not exceeding six (6) months, or by a fine not exceeding Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00), or by both such fine and imprisonment.

B. Every person who, without justifiable or excusable cause knowingly commits battery or assault and battery upon the person of a police officer, sheriff, deputy sheriff, highway patrolman, corrections personnel, or other state peace officer employed or duly appointed by any state governmental agency to enforce state laws while the officer is in the performance of his or her duties, upon conviction, shall be guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment in the custody of the Department of Corrections of not more than five (5) years or county jail for a period not to exceed one (1) year, or by a fine not exceeding Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00), or by both such fine and imprisonment."

I have been a very vocal critic of police in the past for a whole host of reasons, but I guess in this day and age people seem to have lost their ability to reason and say I may be making a very bad decision which could get my butt kicked, get me in jail or both.

Its not total excuse of the officer, but he isn't 100% guilty here . The old man wet the bed with his behavior and had some of it coming. Again it is or used to be common sense that you don't touch a cop.

Smart people say yes sir , no sir / yes ma'am , no ma'am . Take the citation and make their case in court later
That's the good thing about a jury trial, they get to determine if the old man assaulted the officer. With most juror's being older, I don't think it's going to go the cops way.

So, how often are cops tested for illegal substances? Has this hero got a history of bad encounters? Domestic violence?

And just for fun, ask yourself what would happen if the actions of the officer were done by another citizen, under the same conditions.

So many redcoat loyalists, defending the actions of the standing army soldier brutalizing an old man.
Sad state we're in.
It ALL boils down to common sense and respect for Law Enforcement Officers, If you want to blame anyone for the actions like these, blame Barrack Hussain Obama for setting race relations back 50 years and putting most blacks against LE in this nation, We are seeing what those seeds have grown. Officers on edge Citizens yelling in their faces in some cities liberal superiors ordering them to stand down while neighborhoods are burned to the ground. Did this officer over force the old man? Yeah a little But did the old man NOT give that officer the respect the badge deserves? Damn right he did. Like the story I read today of the man who killed his entire family after expressing terror over a Trump win. The DEMS created this. And they need to be held accountable for it.

Do you think the old man should be charged with assaulting the officer? Battery?

I am not saying the cop was within his rights. Am saying that he went way overboard. Also will say that an old oriental man may not be the one you want to let get away with a minor assault because who knows what his next step could have been. Sure looks like the potential rock and a hard place. I am close to his age, but nearly a foot taller and 140lbs heavier. I was taught to say Yes, Sir/Ma'am & No, Sir/Ma'am, and to sound like I meant it. And to sign the nice ticket for the nice cop. It's stood me in good stead. And after I got out of high school I was pretty well law-abiding...

I did spend about an hour outside Las Vegas waiting on cop inquiries about a guy who matched my description to about 8 of 10 points. They were talking about a cop killer, but he was heavily tattooed, and I was wearing an old worn nearly transparent white t-shirt. Obviously wasn't tattooed.
🫣🫣🫣🙄🙄🙄 help me understand what a cop killer has to do with what we watched in the trailer/ cop cam?
What exactly am I missing? What happened in that trailer that would indicate this old man was potentially a cop killer by his actions?

They were looking at ME as a potential cop killer. I was polite and respectful, and not a perfect match. So I did not get a beat down. If I had been impolite and disrespectful they might well have done all their inquiries with me laying in a hospital bed in the jail.
