This may have already been asked so forgive me if it has ,but what I don't understand is how they have put the age limit at 18,but you have to be 21 to buy a handgun or have one in you possession.Isn't that correct?

That is incorrect operator, just as dieseltech09 says.

I am 18, I legally own and have purchased a handgun. My understanding is that there are two ways to legally acquire a handgun if you are between the ages of 18-20 (assuming that your state's law does not forbid it, most states do allow it, and Oklahoma is one of them). If you are between those ages you may buy a handgun from a private party, or receive it has a gift. Although many people do not understand this and will refuse to sell you a handgun once they find out you are 18, even though it is perfectly legal (I speak from experience). Federal law does not allow -21 purchase a handgun from a FFL Dealer.

Here is a brief summary of Oklahoma's gun laws http://www.nraila.org/statelawpdfs/OKSL.pdf

Back on topic

I am planning on writing to my representative and calling her office tomorrow and I encourage all others to do so as well. I would love to be able to open carry including 18+, it is ridiculous that I can die to defend my country, but I cannot legally carry to defend my life until I reach some arbitrary age, and get authorized by the state!

This is what I have email to ALL. Of the house reps.

Representative xxxxx,
I am writing to show support of the subject bill. I believe every citizen has the right to protect themselves with the use of deadly force under the constitution and I am personally sick of my god given rights being regulated. The people of OK are making a stand with this issue and it is your job to represent our voice. Please help allow OK to be the next state to allow less restricted 2A rights with the passage of this bill. The senate has passed it, the new Governor has stated that she also supports it, now I urge the House to do so as well.
Concealed carry was only a stepping stone to what Americans want with regard to their constitutional right to keep and bear arms. The time has come to advance to what we really are entitled to under the US Constitution.
Please do what your constituents want and support this very important issue.

Sullivan moves to strike title due to fiscal impact.

Reynolds calls this vote a signal to the people that they are for open carry. Something tells me he doesn't understand what he is voting on.
