So last night my dogs were going crazy, and I stumbled out of bed to see what was going on. They were barking at something in my front yard area, and I caught a glimpse of a large animal in the moonlight out towards the road. I thought my horses/mules had got out of the pasture somehow. I hurried to get my boots on and grab a halter and then jumped in my pickup. When I got the lights from my pickup pointed towards the road, I got a good look at what was out there. Luckily, all my animals were secure in the pasture, and I had 5 elk in my front yard. There was one young bull and 4 cows. There are elk all around me, and I typically see at least a few everyday. Last night was the first time that I’ve seen them in my yard. They weren’t bothered at all by my dogs or my headlights. They were just hanging out. I watched them for awhile and went back to bed. It was the most exciting Friday night that I’ve had in awhile.

That's very cool. I've seen a surprising variety of wildlife in my yard from the oil lease across the road, given how close to town we live. This is not a comprehensive list, but it's pretty close... of things I've NEVER seen in my yard:

Elk
Wild pigs (thankfully)
Poomahs
Bigfoot
Chupacabra

Almost everything else, though.... :rollingla

Wow, I don’t think I could have gone back to bed. I would have just sat and watched them all night.

Elk can be very boring....

....it seems it takes them forever to chew.

He was still chewing when I got this shot a little later.

Apparently, they like watching people as much as we like watching them.

There’s a little more to my post about last night. Yesterday morning, I was on my way to check out a pasture a few miles up the road. At one particular wheat field that I pass there is typically a very large herd of elk grazing on it. They were right by the fence yesterday morning, and I spooked them when I topped the hill. About half of the herd jumped the fence, and the other half ran the other way. I sped up a bit just to watch them run and jump. There was one particular large cow that stopped and stared me down because I think her baby was on the other side of the road. I stopped in the road and watched the herd re-unite. Anyway, I think that the same cow was in my yard last night, and I’m pretty sure she was looking for revenge!

Went to the farms today to see what was changed during our 2.5 months on the road. Rode the 4 wheeler around and found one deer blind with the roof blown off, and on the South fence line two of the bounce balls for kids and a soccer ball. How they got there, who knows. No homes within miles.
It was a fun day just cruising around on the ATV doing some offroading. Tomorrow will take new roofing material to fix the deer blind and the chain saw to remove some willows along the pond. The pond is down low enough to get in there. Rain coming Monday, so tomorrow is the day.

We took a walk around the neighborhood lake. A very nice evening. I still shake my head every time I see all the ducks and geese everywhere. I think of all the time and effort we used to put into our waterfowl hunting adventures in the Muskogee/Wagoner area back in 2000-2010 era. And it looks like tomorrow is going to be even nicer.

Fishing allowed? LOL. My inlaws had a place with a nice lake like that at their back door. HOA didn't allow any fishing.
