- Just got word that my apartment rent is going up big-time for my next 6-month lease starting in February. Looks like I'm being priced-out and will have to find another place to call home (been here for 14-years). I'm not sure which way to go at this point (73-years old and single).
- Choices include staying where I am and paying the increased rent; move to another apartment complex in the area; move to another area/town in Oklahoma; move to another state; or give-up independent living altogether and check into an 'old soldiers home through the VA. Everything is doubly difficult because I don't drive anymore and I need to keep the rent down to less than $1K/mo while still keeping to a relatively 'safe' [for an old guy] area.
- My sole monthly income is a combo of SS and VA disability, so I don't have a huge amount to play with. Though I have a few months to get 'r done, I've already starting to get rid of things I don't want or need (dumpster or maybe give-away to my kids if they are still in OK) and have started trimming down my pantry stocks.
- Damn I hate moving 😮

I think I read something here on OSA a bit of time back where this place is in Alfalfa County. Nice place, but I have to wonder if your Texas place has a heck of a lot more trees. While the wife and I have worked north Texas the last couple of years, I'm pretty sure our region didn't include where you live. However, what we did work has lots of trees.
Yes sir, my place in Oklahoma is in Alfalfa county, and there are more trees where I live in east Texas than where y’all worked in northeast Texas.

Well, I ended up leaving this morning about an hour later than I intended, because I stayed to help my son clean his deer. The drive home was uneventful, but there was a lot of traffic heading south I assume related to the football game this weekend.
I guess I’ll go sit in a deer stand in the morning behind my house, because the guy I’m working for tomorrow doesn’t want to start until after 10.

We rented a pontoon boat at Lake Murray state lodge this afternoon for a leisurely cruise around the lake with friends. Lots of standing trees under the water so didn’t troll until getting into the Elephant rock area. Quickly picked up a bass and crappie but we were out of time on the rental to catch more.

The carp at the marina were everywhere. They sold catfish food in the store so bought some to feed the fish and ducks.

couple ideas, throw away if you don't find them useful but just thoughts....

since you don't rely on a job, you can move to a smaller town, more bang for your buck...

you could try appealing for more VA benefits, perhaps your disability has worsened or you have developed other service-connected disabilities that make it more difficult.

you could move to another state if you want, but it's hard to beat Oklahoma cost of living, and if you're already struggling to pay the bills it might make things more difficult...

if you're a single dude, i'd look at renting out part of someones house...occasionally people have rooms for rent at a decent price, and if you find a tolerable person in a similar situation, you can get a room all bills paid pretty decent.(roomies.com)

Thanks @Frederick for the ideas. I'm looking at any and all possibilities right now. Fortunately I do have some time to play with the possibilities.
