Nice playing. Stay with it.

I play. Metal. Am doing shows all over all summer as usual with a couple of bands. Havent been able to post in quite awhile because of it even though I can post from my phone and laptop, just too busy.

I knew this thread would bring you out of the woods! Have fun on tour!!

It did plus I just happened to be home for a bit working on my guitars, gear, etc. I think the next few years might be my last summers out playing then Im looking into going in on a rock/metal all ages original music venue with a couple of musician friends in Tulsa and/or OKC. I missed the site, missed the nicest people on earth here in Oklahoma, and I missed Oklahoma style blues and barbeque the most, not something they call blues or barbeque out on the west coast. I might play metal for a living but Im a bigtime blues fan and have been itching to maybe get into playing it as I get older and edge out of the rock and metal worlds. I have an old buddy down in Austin TX, Van Wilks, he's a local rock and blues legend in Austin- I met him in the 80s when I was a kid when he taught me how to play Hendrix's "Little Wing". Im gonna go down and spend some time with him driftin around on Lake Travis and have him hook me up with some private blues lessons.

I love this style of music (Jack Rose). I had not heard of Jack before. I will definitely be listening to his stuff now. What tuning is Kensington Blues in?

Also if it only takes you a couple of minutes to learn this song... I hate you. j/k. :D

I play two to four gigs most weeks on either guitar or bass. Though I get paid for it I consider the money to be for moving my gear to the gig. The playing is fun, and free. :)

It's in Open C. (CGCGCE)

Tabs are available if you google for "jack rose kenginston blues tabs"
the link from "mediafire" has the right tab

it only took a couple of minutes to get 90% of it down. that last 10% "polish" takes a few more months.

if you like that song there are a couple of others you might branch into to see if you like
Steve James - Hot Time on The Old Town Tonight (this is a good attempt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0eBCv_7DbM )
Mark Spoelstra - Untitled Instrumental (Pandora clip : http://www.pandora.com/music/song/mark+spoelstra/untitled+instrumental )
John Fahey (or Sam McGee) - Knoxville Blues

Here's the Pandora link for Kensington Blues... they do enumerate some of the qualities of the song:

If it's that thumping drone that you like then Michael Chapman is another with that type of drone.

Used to play bass years ago. Now play flamenco guitar time to time. No picks not now, not ever. All my buddy's are grown up and have families so no more jamming.

Man I always wanted to learn flamenco!
Maybe when I get decent at fingerstyle blues...

Our band is currently on hiatus due to our fiddle player having an injury. Otherwise I would be playing a couple times a month. I've played for a long time, but I'm still just barely good enough to fake my way through most stuff.

Thanks for the links. I did find the mediafire tab last night at home. It does look like it should be fairly easy to pick up the basics. I can already fingerpick, so thats one hurdle gone.
