I'll be running with a Garand again. A 6.5 Swede would have been cool though. Maybe next time...
I run the guns I would use if SHTF. Maybe I am senile but I often consider another Garand, one with a new barrel, over an AR15. maybe you can confirm that for me. lol!

In regard to my goals, they are purely oriented around my previous performances. There is lot's of room for improvement.

Garands are awesome - I have to say the M1A with detachable mags is an improvement. I personally like the fit of the GI fiberglass stocks as well. If you're considering an upgrade, you might try one out before you buy.

As for your goals - that's the only way to look at it! (some folks may not have figured this out yet, but we have actually devised a self-improvement program disguised as a shooting event)

I am sure it was posted earlier but what rifle are you running. Hench pointed out a nice swede Mauser on the forum about a month ago, I thought long and hard before passing. The 6.5 X 55 caliber would have worked perfect because I have projectiles & powder.

I'm going to give it a go with a Yugo restamped German K98k. My shoulder hurts just thinking about the VTAC wall lol...

Just ragging you Hensch...if it isn't ready to go, you can't force it!

Oh we got it, but still are competitive with each other. Makes it fun and get to trash talk a lil. Met a lot of good guys and when we get there we are def supportive of each other and hope each learns something from the experience. We each share gear and experiences each time we go.

I've improved myself each time. Finished 24th, 19th, and 15th. Moved up each time. I just wish my back wasn't junk and I could actually run it.

Shakyhand (and others) - do you know what your total gear weight was last year? Are you doing the same this year?

All year long, and especially after seeing the course of fire this year, I'd planned to go lighter and hopefully faster. But after rewatching all of last year's match video - ESPECIALLY THAT LAST STAGE - I decided to bring six FAL mags again. I probably won't need them all, but I'll be damned if I'm going to drive all the way to Oklahoma just to run out of ammo at the end! That makes 40lbs total to carry (clothes and shoes included).

Oh well. If it was easy, everyone would do it!

Gear, ammo and weapons = 22 - 24 #, depending on amount of water carried. Doesn't count clothes bc that non-negotiable for the most part.

An option instead of bringing extra full mags is to bring some loose or strippered ammo and reload on the move...I've done that and/or redistributed on the past runs.

But clothing could play a factor if it's really cold. Would make for more clothing and restricted movement. But I get your thought process
