Pawnee Winter Run n' Gun - 2016

Ted and I were at Red Castle getting 500 yard zeroes on Tuesday. I had to make sure that I could get the hits with the 11.5" AR and XM193. I can, but Ted out-shot me with his scoped Mini 14.

As far as ammo goes, I have never run out at one of these and I don't intend to. I have come way too close for comfort a couple times, and have seen it happen to a bunch of other people. I'm going with four 30 round AR mags and three 19 round Glock mags. It's probably twice what I will actually shoot, but whatever -- 5.56 is light. The 11.5" rifle is super light too, which will be nice.

On another subject, my buddy and I had fun in the snow and wind today. Ran 3 miles in some challenging terrain and shot from far away, went 8/8 on a USPSA target from 500 and 3/5 on a 8" circle from 300.

I'm jealous - 300 yds is the furthest I can go here. Conditions were prime for training today though: 23°F, blustery wind, and a dusting of snow. For some reason I cannot fathom, I had the entire range to myself! I refined my zero a bit with some highpower stuff, ran the VTAC board a couple times with 8" targets at 150yds, and banged some 4 MOA targets at 300 yds.

Thank you guys for all the weight info. Shakyhand - I was kind of hoping you'd say "I carried 40 lbs too - stop being a pu$$y and RUN FASTER!!!". Now what am I going to use for motivation? I'm shooting better this year than last, but I'm still not confident enough in my shots to carry less ammo. I have been running 3 days a week since October, and with extra weight since December. I'm definitely in better shape than last year - which is what all this is about I guess. It's never quite enough though!

I struggle with testosterone poisoning too. If it makes you feel any better - my first plan last year was to carry TEN FAL mags, just because I always thought that would be my "load out" if it ever came down to it. I'm pretty glad I wimped out and carried only six.

I forgot - I'd love to see everyone's gear weight on match day, but even moreso I'd love to see a rifle/caliber column in the match results. I was really surprised at how many different kinds of rifles I saw there last year, and wish I would I would have had more time to really take a look at everything and talk to everyone about how it worked for them.

Any guesses on how the shotgun stage is going to be set up? Distance, action, etc. I kind of assumed pump but maybe not.

Supposed to be a Mossberg 835 with three 3.5" 2 oz turkey loads with an xtra full turkey choke. With option to climb over a five foot wall if you would rather shoot light birdshot. Shotgun must go boom three times.

Matt I am positive you and those garand guys easily carried wayyyy more gear disguised as ammo than I ever thought about. When Al runs that M1A I am sure his gear outweighs mine but I never asked him how many rds he was carrying.

As far as a chart with weight, gun, caliber we will want to keep that separate from the scores. Those women do a great job, we don't want to over burden them.

I weighed my gear one day last year - 4 20 round mags of .308, 4 15 round .40, a Glock, loaded, and Camelbak full of water+ rifle is about 30 lbs.
I usually finish with a mag and a half of .308 left (or more) - but I can burn some pistol ammo, so I carry lots of it.

I run the ALICE belt and suspenders with taco pouches, same setup when I run the mini, but significantly lighter.

There will be three hanging chimes, a shotgun and three shells. You load the shotgun, hit the chimes, ground the shotgun, engage two more targets with a pistol. Distance will be determined when I get out there and set it up - terrain and Mother Nature will dictate terms. Probably be an 870.
