If you saw my other thread on Day Labor you know I have a plumbing problem.. What I discovered after the hole was dug out was a Slip Fix fitting that had blown apart. Not sure if it was put in to fix a previous leak of if for some reason it might be needed to compensate for ground movement. I can make the repair without using a slip fix fitting, what I'm wondering about is it normal to install a slip fitting after the water meter?

To better describe what I have.. Out of the meter is 3/4 PVC which makes a 90 (actually two 45's) then adapts to 1 inch. The slip fitting was in the 1 inch about 8 inches from the 3/4 to 1 inch adaptor fitting. I can run 1 inch with a normal 90 then adapt it to 3/4 to go to the meter. Have about two feet on the 1 inch leg to the 90 then about 1 1/2 feet on the 3/4 to the meter.

Any advice from those that know?

Thanks

I AM NOT A PLUMBER but I did work at a hardware store for 10 years.

In my experience glue is better than slip and slip is usually used for repairs not in new installations.

Best of luck and use the blue (wet/dry) glue.

Thanks for the tip on glue, wasn't aware one was available for wet/dry use.

While trying to go to sleep last night I had one of those DUH.. moments. Another water line is directly under where the slip fix joint was located. I would bet money when the other water line was installed my line was cut with a trencher and repaired with the slip fix fitting. Don't know why this didn't dawn on me when looking down the hole yesterday and seeing that second water line.. DUH...
