Thank you all for your responses. After reading the FAQs on the ATF site, the answer is clear. No sales between out of state individuals unless the firearm is shipped to an ffl in their state.

I wouldn't waste time and effort finding a way to sell the gun to this guy legally. There's more than likely some guy right down your street that is willing to buy it. Just takes time.

What everybody else said. Illegal to sell to an out of state resident.

People do it all the time on gunbroker, you just have to do it through FFLs no FTF trasactions. Maybe you could get an extra $50 and he could save time and gas. He should've known that law but you should go ahead and inform him.
