Below are some quotes from 2 members that posted in another thread on this same subject. Read them and you can see that you worrying about nothing.

...........
This is coming from someone that owned a gun that was confirmed to have been used in a murder after I traded it.
My local police contacted me on the behalf of the Chicago police department because a gun I had owned was used in a murder there. I had traded it at a gun show to a private seller 4-5 years prior and did not have anything to help them other than confirming the race of the person I traded it to did not match the race of the suspect.

I've had a gun I sold used in a robbery after it changed hands a few times. They had even shot at the police with it. I spoke with a detective trying to track the previous owners of said firearm for 5 minutes on the phone and then went about my day. I had no idea who I had sold it to and no helpful information for the investigation, but it didn't matter, I had not broken any laws. This happened about 7-8 years ago.

That folks, is a real life, actual account of what you're so afraid of happening if you don't have documentation of a gun sale. No flashing lights, jail time, or criminal record, just a 5 minute phone call.

When my roommate stole one of my guns and used it, the cops came to me as the registered owner... He even did quite a job trying to scratch off the serials. I told them it was mine, he wasn't supposed to have it, and they even gave me the chance to get it back... I declined and signed it destroyed

Let's turn this question around...

What happens if every single gun sale and purchase you are ever involved in is tracked and recorded and you have to pay a fee for transfer and you have to pay taxes on any profit you make and have to submit to a background check for every purchase and then prices of transfers go up because they have to build a new system to handle the traffic and pretty soon you have GUN Agencies just like TAG Agencies in every town where you have to go stand in line and deal with cranky old women who would rather not help you and you have to get a tax stamp for your guns you own every year and it's based on the value of the gun and then they start requiring you to show proof of violence liability insurance on each of your guns in order to own or transfer them and then they require you to carry a license to prove that you can even own a gun and you need to show proof of your registration and insurance every time you are carrying and a police officer asks you and then they show up at your house to check to see if you are in compliance and to take your guns if you fail to pay the yearly tax and on and on and on and on....

Called ATF earlier this week for a sale of several guns just to cya. Guy I talked with made suggestion of getting the buyers name or dl number so if they track it you have a tangible person for them to move past you to in case of use in crime. Thought it was a great suggestion.

You are not getting my DL number to help "Cover Your Azz". I keep it private to "Cover MY Azz".

This has to be some sort of record. Three periods at the front and four periods at the end. Amazing!

That about sums it up.

Edit: I made the mistake of giving a brotha my DL info for a private sale on armslist. Well, he took a picture of my DL with his I-phone, so i took a pic of his tag number. I won't be doing that again.
