it's hard to make stripes look good on a fox body, too. when they look good they really, really look good. when they don't... bleh.
some of the new body mustangs look ok with racing stripes. i saw one with gray paint and black stripes, it looked pretty snazzy.
it's just hard to pull off, and it's done poorly often enough to disparage them in general.
