Bundy had a press conference today and stated he didnt have to pay because his "mormon ancestors grazed the land since the 1830's" which he believes granted him "ancestral grazing rights".

Theres to much spin on this to really know whats really going on execpt for the courts have decided twice he has to remove his cattle and he has refused.
I cant find any reliable info that the feds have ever stated anything about turtles or drilling. Bundy admitted in court that he had paid for grazing rights to the blm for years up until 1994 as did his father.
I agree this should be state land, and a states right issue but this is not the way fight that battle. Hes not helping anything.

Following your logic here, the federal government doesn't really own yellowstone then or any national park.

Is that a weak way of saying you dont know? The parks are held in public trust..... and thats not the BLM or Forest Service. Life is simple in Oklahoma.... the state owns little public land so somebody owns nearly everything

I can say with certainty that I've seen land taken by eminent domain and the court decree stated "fee simple" title was held by the .gov. COE in these cases. And the landowners were compensated. Fairly? I dunno, but they got paid something.

What a mess.

No doubt!

Well, it seems to me that if you are going to take the position that possession of all federal land is transferred to the state upon statehood then federally owned parklands of all kinds are impossible.

I do think that your earlier post about the states winning control over the land through the court system is the best route though and I do wish you and the state of Nevada the best of luck in that endeavor.

Heres todays paper.... if you really interested in this situation the Nevada Appeal up here in Carson lays it out.

Pretty clear the turtles have been in the mix..... sorry , this is old news for the locals in 7 states. When they come for ya'll this is how they warmed up.

Its not my position to take. Not all govt land is aquired the same way. National parks are public trust.... a lot of the properties were donated believe it or not

That's pretty simplistic. There are a number of ways a State could give up legal possession. It doesn't always involve executing a deed for transactions between governments, but there will be a legislative or legal trail of some sort to follow.

Its not a matter of the state giving up legal control to the federal government.

Yellowstone was created as a national park in 1872.
Wyoming didn't become a state until 1890.

Did Yellowstone stop being federal land in 1890?
That's the question?
