On balance, I'd have to say none, but we've taught them how to live and who to vote for, and it didn't cost us but a few thousand lives and a couple trillion dollars. The Iraq War (and all it's predecessor variants) were launched with bi-partisan, and strong bi-partisan, support. As far as I can tell Americans of both parties and our various European allies too, use oil.

Now, if the current Democrat administration were so convinced of the need to strategically de-link from oil - vice being ideologically motivated to embrace "Green" - we would be pushing domestic production heavily. That would make sense, not frustrating domestic energy production that is significant (fossil fuel), while pushing relatively insignificant Green projects.
