Probably Fake . Why weren't they pulling the horse the way it was facing?
It looks like they were pulling him in the direction where they knew they had solid ground. The backhoe was sitting in water that was a few inches deep, and it was covering a pretty good area, so it could’ve been hiding lots of potential hazards for a horse in that direction.

No, it’s not a fake and I can’t think of how better they could have done it. Good job guys rescuing the horse and not sinking the backhoe.
My parents and their friends were riding in the desert once when all of a sudden 3 out of the 4 of them sank just past belly deep in mud/quicksand. There was about a 3”-4” hard crust on top of the ground and below that really, really loose mud. In the middle of nowhere there wasn’t much to be done other than highly “encourage” the horses to keep fighting through till they found solid ground. My mother’s Spanish Arab was the first to make it out. Not sure if her being lighter had anything to do with it but that little mare had a motor that just didn’t quit. Once she broke out those big ol’ Quarter Horses made their way to safety.
