I got the samsung captivate last night. Within about an hour I'd found a few things that are kind of frustrating.
First thing I found was how your settings to display contacts in the contacts page don't control how they are displayed on the messaging page. Long story short, I now have upwards of 3 duplicate entries when I look at my contacts in the messaging window, but not in the regular contacts window. That's just a minor thing, though.
Other main thing I want to get sorted is that I cannot get it to update. I want to get the new firmware with the GPS fix and other stuff, but every time I try to update, it says it could not connect with the AT&T update server. I've heard other people talk about this, but no one talks about what is going on. Guess I'll have to call AT&T.
Does anyone here know of a good way to sync your music library (or portions of it anyway) to the captivate. I'm gonna be in the market for that asap. I prefer not to carry around my phone AND an ipod. Haha.
Overall, though, I like the android operating system. It has a nice feel to it.

LOL, I'm a tight wad, so I keep my phones for at least a couple years.
I normally get 3 to 4 years out of one. I hate wasting money, except on guns and ammo.
Buy a micro SD card and a card reader (I just use a targus one, its compact and goes right into my usb port. Drag and drop whatever music image files you want into it just like it just another folder on your computer.
Well the Iphone 3 and 3g batt life sucked, but the iphone 4 is much better (about 40% better), and I believe that batt life is now just about a wash, with neither clear winner at this point it and the Samsung Galaxy devices. They're both "pretty good" but not great. Iphone is better "for the size", but not "for the weight" in batt life, so it's relative to other features.
The Samsung /Android type phones will be the overall clear winner in the long run I think, though the Iphone 4 is very very good. Not perfect at all mind you, but very good. When the Captivate is debugged, has 2.2, a mifi hotspot, better GPS (already fixed allegedly), front facting camera, a flash, and most importantly (to me), an ability to delete the POS bloatware AT&T Navigator, then it will be far far superior. That's a LOT of things, but they're all easily fixable in the near term - we're not too far off from out-freaking-standing, when you look at the Epic 4 with 2.2 froyo.
However, three things the Iphone still has better and probably will for awhile yet (at least the next year or so). The resolution of the screen, the ability to see the screen in bright light (which is partly related to resolution, but not completely - it's a separate issue), and the overall quality of the build materials and thus durability (glass screen, steel edges, etc.); lots of metal and very little to no plastic, quite unlike the Samsung.
I value this latter quality-build issue a lot, myself, not the least reason is that a glass screen won't get scratched like a plastic one. If you value one or more of these three things the most, above others, then you'll continue to think that the iphone is superior for some time to come - and you won't be wrong - those are three BIG things. The Android devices have many advantages over the Iphone, and they're soon to overtake it, the way most people value the feature set, but they're not there just yet - IMO.
Also, the Iphone has better customer service - forgot about that one. Great great, always-available telephone help for Apple products - this is tremendously valuable, especially if you get a lemon.
Also, in addition to the phone CS, you've got the Apple store to supplement - It's kind of interesting to note that you've really got TWO distinct sets of Apple products users: Those who DO live within a reasonable distance of an Apple store (say, within 25 miles), and those who do NOT live within a reasonable distance of an Apple store - though they all pay the same price for Apple products, those that live near an Apple store get a much better value, because the Genius Bar is worth its weight in gold when you have a techie problem that they cannot fix over the phone - and they swap you right out if you're under warranty and it's not something you did to the phone.

half the reason for the iphone is just that it feels so solid and it has a sexy design. Most other phones i've felt going for the same idea just seem kinda hokey in your hand, sure they get it done, but it's just not as solid and awesome... an iphone is like a well tuned 1911
