I wont engage about optics price and quality etc., but in any LIKELY self defense shooting with a pistol, a person is unlikely to be further than 7 yards. If the defender has solid handgunning fundamentals, you can still hit a torso just bracketing the frame of the red dot (if the dot is no longer working or even if the glass falls out) and make it work. Kind of like shooting a slick top slide with no sights, totally doable at 0-7 yards! That applies no matter how fancy or non fancy of a pistol and sight system anyone uses.
I agree with you on this 100%. I run red dots on fun guns but I won't carry with a red dot. Like you said, there's no point. It's all going to be up close and personal and I don't need any extra parts to snag on clothing. We'll said!!

I bought a Holosun dot for a F&N 502 in .22 rimfire. After the first magazine, the dot went to the top left corner of the screen and stayed there, no matter how much adjustment was used to try and correct it.
Got an RMA from Holosun and two weeks later a brand new one showed up at my door, ready to be mounted.
Great customer service!
Glad I’m reading this, I am thinking the same pistol and the same optic, how do you like the 502?

I got the threaded barrel model for a suppressor.
They may all be threaded for all I know.
I’ve put a couple hundred rounds through it so far with mixed ammo, having 100% success so far.
It’s very light with the polymer frame.
I have a FN-509 as well. Both pistols use the same holster, so only one will need to be purchased.
Very happy with it so far.

I will say though… look at this target, I shot a friends canik mid sized 9mm at 25 yards (optic wasnt zeroed) and then I shot 5 rounds through my glock with irons, the dots feel like im cheating.. the group thats touching plus the one in the white is with a dot, freehanding at 25 yards, the the other 5 in the center of the head are the iron sights glock. While I agree, you dont need a dot, but if you are trained and shooting a dot becomes habitual, man its fun!

I also agree on Holosun. The model I have on almost all of my handguns is the HS507C-X2-ACSS. It is a proprietary sight made only for Primary Arms. Lifetime warrantee thru PA. I sent one back that died after I dropped my pistol in the garage and they sent a new one.

The reason we like this one it is it has a chevron in the center with a large 30mm halo around that. I take to the range for the first time a lot of Northerners that have never shot before. The large ring allows them to get to the chevron quickly. Quick acquire increases accuracy quickly. The top of the chevron is where you sight it in. The lower end of the chevon wings is where a 9 mm impacts at 100 yards. It works.

On my daily carry I change the battery every 6 months and my nightstand I swap out yearly. Pulling up a dead sight is one thing at the range, a whole different thing when the **** hits the fan. No name batteries suck.

As far as concern about breaking the sight if you are required to pistol whip someone, I’ll gladly buy a new one to replace it. If he’s that close, I’m out of ammo and the site is now useless. PA might even give you a new one when they hear how it got damaged.

Sounds good, I haven’t got a chance to handle one yet, but I like the grip angle more than the Glock. What ammo seems to be accurate so far?

I’ve not tested for accuracy yet, just reliability.
We have steel challenge plates at the range set up. As long as I’m ringing steel, I’m happy.
There is a huge stash of .22 ammo of different brands in the man cave. I’ll get out with a rest one of these days and see how accurate it is.

I love dots on pistols so much now. Being able to shoot with both eyes open is great at any range and at 25+ yards my groups have shrunk by at least 25% with less effort to get there.

As mentioned, the battery life is so good now that I wouldn't worry about a "shake awake" causing issues with the gun being on for your entire drive.

My carry/truck/go-to guns get their batteries changed every daylight savings time change in the fall. The $1.50 or less per gun for a battery is very cheap insurance to make sure they are always ready to go.
