I know some of it has been said. The security guards did what they are supposed to do. Observe and report. If they were to get involved they could be fired and or sued by the parties involved in the fight. Security Guards are not Police Officers. The job of the security guard is to deter crime and in the event a crime happens observe and report the crime to the appropriate authorities. Also considering that most unarmed security guards make less than $10 an hour why would they want to take a punch?

The reason security guards have such a bad rap is they are way underpaid. If they were paid better the caliber of person would be better. If the caliber of person is better then it is possible that more leeway would be given to security guards to stop fights and such.

It's sad that you think the caliber of a person is determined by their wage.

Also, I doubt they make 10 dollars an hour. Minimum wage in Seattle is like 8.50 or so, and 10 bucks is barely a living wage (or isnt' at all by many standards). Also, if the job is so crappy, why worry about losing it? I'm not trying to attack your argument so much as I'm angry that such callousness could be shown towards another human being getting brutalized inches away.

The caliber of the person in most jobs is a direct reflection of their wage. If you doubt it look at most minimum wage employees. I am not saying they are bad people, I am saying that you get what you pay for minimum wage=minimum effort.

Oh and Wakenhut has one opening in the Washington area for a "traditional unarmed security guard' at $10.63

i would have at least tried to protect the girl from getting the additional foot in the face. I think by the security guards doing nothing, it shows the kids they can do whatever they want, and the paid security wont do anything other than call the police. SAD

To observe and report ONLY.Several agencies have that policy of "no hands on". Steve

My son is very active in the MMA in Dallas TX, as well as being a bouncer in one of the most exclusive clubs there. They have rules about how much contact they can have with a client that is unruly. That being said, he had to break up a fight in the parking lot with a hollywood superstar last week that was kicking the heck out of her escort.:D:D

While I understand the guards staying with in the letter of their job duties of "observe and report", it doesnt though take anything to speak up and use their voice to say something.

Most people once they know they have been seen and or noticed and someone says something will stop the attack and flee. Especially younger kids. Yeah on the rare occassion the attackers might turn them selves onto the person interviening but I doubt that would happen very often.

A simple "Hey, what are you all doing!!!" would of have been more than enough to stop the attack. The second failure was them doing nothing to come to the aide of the girl.

I am putting the guards into the position of being no better than the attackers in the fact that they are not the type of person I would want to be in the same circle as in todays world.
