Man I hate welding expanded metal. After you get done with your project you have 2000 welds on it. A few years back I built a 3 hole dog box to fit on top of the rails of my Polaris ranger all out of angle iron and expanded. I bet I struck more arcs welding that than all my others in the past 5 years.

Well, I got lots of practice doing spot welds. About 8 hours just doing spot welds.

Any recommendations on how to paint them or what paint / primer to use?

Well, after 7 cans of flat black spray paint, I think I’m done with the shelves. It was a lot bigger project than I anticipated, but I think it’s a good start to declutter my shop. I still need to install the base molding and that should be it for this project. I’ll wait until my ADD kicks in again with ideas for a new project to start the next round of work.
