Unless the barell was lined with silver, why are SKS rifles going for $600-$800? I don't want one and don't really care what they sell for but why are prices sooooo high?

I bought an SKS out of a metal trashcan for $79 OTD at a gunshow in 2009. Have they really appreciated in price 630% in 4 years?

Good God, you should have bought every one he had; I haven't seen the $79 SKS since the early 90s, when dealers used to have stacks of them in crates. Your gunshow dealer was giving them away.
