I know you need them for an AR-15, but would it be required for a Mini?
I've always understood that small base dies are designed for semi-auto rifles. Some people say you don't need them but I suspect it will really come down what that specific firearm's chamber dimensions are.
I have a few sets of small base dies, but find that I rarely need to use them. My AR-15 style rifles work just fine with standard dies, My mini-14 works fine with standard dies. I have loaded for a browning or two that required small base dies, but that is the only series rifles I have ever had to use small base dies on. Small base dies really work the brass and shorten the life of it. If you don't need them for a particular rifle, don't use the. Just my experience.. Blitzfike
Small base die? I've always used a full length resizing die for my mini, always fed and still got pretty good accuracy, brass doesn't last near as long as bolt gun, but that's probably due to losing them.
