No marks on the barrel at all, so I would think Remington swapped it out. Bore is super clean too. Anyone know of a scope kit that will work with this that doesn’t require drilling and tapping? Maybe something mounted to another fixed position

I know, it’s almost in too good of shape but then again a scope mounted professionally sure would be a good field gun
unless it shoots a 30 inch pattern at 100 yards? then it isn't even a good shotgun. and a good scope isn't going to help. but it very well might be a tack driver worthy of the best scope.

Consider buying a better gun if you want a scope. Not only will you have the D&T cost but most likely you'll have to have bolt handle and stockwork too.
Or shoot it like it is.

Something not mentioned yet is you should verify in what caliber that thing is chambered. Better pics of all the markings and rifle in general would help but it appears to have the military rear sight for a 1903 Springfield but then I’d expect it to have the flaming bomb behind the front sight if it hasn’t been shortened or rebarreled. If it was rebarreled which was common no telling what caliber it actually is.

1. Verify caliber, Cerasafe or gunsmith
2. Take to range and shoot to see the grouping potential the rifle has off bags or a rest. Looks to be a replacement barrel, based off sights which aren’t military.
3. Drill and tap from a good reputable gunsmith. Possible bolt handle modified. Any machining needed for bases to be level with each other after being buffed and blued.

Then off courses do number one, get ammo, go to range, sights in, and hunt with it the way it is. Your shooting a deer, not prairie dogs👍

That is a good looking rifle there head and shoulder above the majority out there. Sure looks like some potential laying there.
