Stolen deer head in NE Oklahoma

It takes a couple minutes to cut a head off or scalp a skull for just skull cap with antlers. Were you wanting it caped out? Caping one out takes about 10 minutes for somebody skilled. The processor here keeps a electric chain saw by the check in door to remove head or skull cap. If you want it caped out, there is somebody to do that during gun and MZ seasons. I haven't had a deer processed in years, but I have helped out there a few times.

Nice deer and it is unique. Did they have they get the cape too or just the skull cap? Did you share pics and information with area taxidermists?

My processor takes the antlers off when its dropped off. I can't believe it was stolen. I'll bet they chunked it.

I had mine from 3 years ago stolen from beside my house. Biggest buck i've ever shot.

I don't know why you didn't get the head removed when you dropped off the carcass with them. They usually have one or two guys checking in the deer who are happy to remove the head. If you needed it caped, then you should have done it. That was a very nice deer, sorry to hear about you losing the head; but unless an employee took the skull, it was thrown away.
Heck, maybe it was stolen. I would go to some of the local taxidermists and gun shops with a picture of the stolen head. Maybe someone can id, it for you.

I've dealt with Walke Bros. for almost 10 years, processing cows, deer and a pig. I've had nothing but great service from them.

I told the kid working there I wanted the head right then. I was going to do a European mount. He said it would help him to have the head on...I reluctantly agreed and now kicking myself for not trusting my gut. I have a feeling that the kid that cut the head off has it and I've heard through the grapevine John also suspects the kid has it. Kid's name is Joel apparently. He claims to have set it back in the cooler out back, which is NOT at all what I was told he was going to do with it when I dropped it off.
