A relative of mine just started his collection with a Springfield .45-70 and wants to add to his collection with similarly historical rifles. Neither of us are knowledgeable in the field and would appreciate a little education. Also, are there any shops in eastern Oklahoma that deal in such rifles? Thanks in advance.

Non replica in that price range might be tough to find other than the trapdoors, but not impossible. You might look for a Remington rolling block in .43 Egyptian. Seems like those things were everywhere 15-20 years ago and were in the $400 range. I've not seen one in a long time though.

Here's some original remingtons to look at for price and variations. http://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-for-sale-online/rifles/remington-rifles-antique.cfm?cat_id=334

Collectors Firearms in Houston is incredible. If you ever get the chance to go, go, and plan for 3-5 hours of looking. You'll never know what oddball firearms they'll have. Here's their antiques page.
