That is the question on an AR built ! At AR15.com the anwser was Yes ! No ! Maybe ! So what does the peanut gallery here have to say about headspaceing AR's.
Headspace guages generally do not work in the AR platform, Some would argue that because of the twist lock mechanism that they are self headspacing.
I am not sure to be honest but even in the new guns- a no go guage will still allow the gun to fire, and the same with a field guage.
It never hurts to check but there isn't exactly an easy way to adjust said headspace if its incorrect. You could always buy a barrel that comes with the properly headspaced bolt.
I'm still very new to ARs, having not even finished my first one yet, but from what I've read so far, changing the head spacing would require enough machine work to almost justify getting a new barrel. That of course depends on the price of the barrel… I'm curious to see what everyone else's thoughts are on this as well.
