After a long day at MEPs I swore in today in the Oklahoma Army National Guard as an 11 Bravo Infantryman. I'm sure some of you might remember the long thread discussion about me trying to decide if joining was right for me. After lots of thoughts and prayers my wife and I came to the conclusion that this was something I should pursue. Needless to say I'm really excited. I leave for Ft. Benning on 20110110. Infantry leads the way!

I am sure plenty of folks, including the NG guys you will work with will be telling you how to get in shape for the training.

I'd suggest you do an Appleseed shoot as soon as you can manage it. Mastering what they teach you at Appleseed will give you a huge leg up, even if you are already an excellent shot. At Appleseed, you shoot an Army qualification course, in the same positions you will do in Army training [at least it looks that way to me. I've done the Army stuff and just read about the Appleseed stuff].

A huge amount of basic is getting in shape and learning to shoot under Army conditions. If you have both of those under control before you go, you will have a much better time of it.

Thanks for all the good wishes guys. I have been PT'ing like crazy the past 4 months. The main thing I need to focus on is running and I have about 3 months before Ft. Benning, I will be training hard(not too hard though). If they told me I had to go to BCT tomm I would be pretty confident from a PT standpoint.
