Congratulations! In today's "total force" climate every Guardsman, Reservist, and Active Duty member plays a huge role in the defense of our nation. In Air Force speak, thank you for putting service before self. Take the following advice with a grain of salt, as I'm a very headstrong sort of person. The hardest thing to get accustomed to is the seemingly complete surrender of personal freedoms required to be effective throughout your career. This is really an illusion. While many of your former liberties are slightly curtailed, the things you give up are less than the things gained by yourself and the people you serve. Just remember to always put things in the proper perspective and you'll love your new profession.

Thanks again.

Congrats. Thank you for your service.

Good advice from others above. I went through Army basic many years ago (1975... I am sure it has changed much since that time but I am sure many of the same mind games are still being played by the Drill instructors. I am sure you will do fine...

And again thank you much...Take care and be safe.

Jc, you have my family's full support, as does anyone else serving our great nation. Because of people like yourself, we are able to live in the greatest place on earth.

Also, thank you to all the current/former servicemembers on this forum.

from a fellow 11bravo (now out), you poor stupid *******. lol

Seriously dude, you are going to pick up some knowledge at basic but for the most part you need to focus on one phrase to help you get through it, "Mouth shut, eyes and ears open, drive forward, stand tall but dont stand out."

Just do the best you can, learn all you can and don't give them any reason to screw with you. Alot of those DS don't care much for the weekend warrior recruits. Course alot changed shortly after i graduated basic and everything i heard about it was that it softened up a bit, so you'll be alright.

Thank you for your service - I just hope and plead that if you're ever ask to disarm the good citizens of New Orleans for no reason other than they're inside their own homes (or anywhere for that matter), as some former OK guardsmen did, you will recognize and follow your duty to disobey illegal and unconstitutional orders. Be safe and good luck to you.
