Could be a '65. That was the first year for the 3-cylinder Thousand-series tractors. The '62-'64 4000s looked like the 800-series tractors from the '50s.A lot of things would probably get the job done better. But they aren't $200 and 3 miles from the house. And an auger can dig a hole for anything...posts, trees, shrubs, etc... I suppose you could pound a tree or shrub into the ground with a hydraulic post driver but it wouldn't look very pretty.

FWIW, if you want more power, that 3-cylinder engine will interchange with Ford/New Holland 3-cylinders up through the '90s. My dad replaced the gasser in his '68 with a low-hours industrial diesel from a mid-'90s New Holland backhoe. He got it for a song from the Ford/New Holland dealer in Chickasha because the backhoe's owner kept complaining about it using oil (a problem we never had, BTW), so they replaced it to make him happy.
