Another interesting thing about the deer around my place is that there are two “types” of deer. One we call sand hill deer that evidently move over from the sand hills north of me, and they have really white horns and a lighter tan and wooly coat. The “river” deer generally have darker horns and a darker smooth coat.
In 20 years of hunting up there, I’ve never seen a sand hill buck over about 150” and never seen one with decent brows or mass.

This buck is still running around. I think I’ll pass on him in hopes of him making it to next year. My neighbor told me he saw a bigger buck on his place so I might see if I can go find him.
