When I was in Highschool in the late 90’s a few of the teachers loved telling us that we wouldn’t be getting the social security benefits we would soon be paying in. So, what I’m asking is, how long was SS gonna last anyhow? Or was I lied to as a poor innocent young stout handsome charismatic young gentleman?

My answer off the top of my head after reading and laughing at your post is I believe the year 2029 if not shored up. Sooner if President Trump get his way.
I'm sure someone will come and correct me if I'm wrong in 3-2-1...

I tried to talk to her about the tax consequences of what she was doing. She said she'd never paid taxes in her life so she didn't figure she'd have to for 2020. I asked her if she understood how they actually calculated taxes...How someone can be smart enough to work the system like she has and NOT know the fundamentals of taxation confounds me.

If President Trump can actually eliminate the payroll tax permanently I hope everyone has been putting a lot of money back or into something else because you can kiss Social Security and Medicare goodbye.

Honestly she's something else. She didn't know that the deductions coming out of her check were government mandated. She thought it was fees her employer was "allowed to charge as tax breaks for big businesses". She had no idea that the money she gets in her refund check is an actual refund of taxes she was paying in. I have absolutely no explanation as to the stuff people come up with ...

I will readily admit I am not the sharpest pencil in the box but it sounds like that poor girl can't even make change. Maybe she's too young, I was stupid when I was a young kid, I even gave. false Social Security number when I applied for work..but I was found out! I don't usually admit that but given the chance...
