Every so once in a while, I pass by one on...NW 23rd and Penn, on the West side behind the 7/11 on NW23rd and Penn. Don't know how good they are, I've never been in there.

If you can tell me the model number of the TV (on the silver sticker on the back) I can tell you if its worth repairing or not. It sounds like your power supply is good, otherwise the speakers wouldn't work. My guess i that the panel or backlight did go bad and the storm was just a coincidence. If it were lightning-related, chances are the TV wouldn't even turn on.
With your cost for diagnostics, parts (which for a 42" Samsung will probably be hard to come by) and labor to fix it, you're better off with a new TV.
There is an appliance place in Moore on Broadway that repairs. I had a piece of crap Vizio that crapped out at 13 months for no apparent reason. I think they charged me $35 to tell me what was wrong with it. The part and labor to repair was going to be like $50 less than a new tv would cost. I put the tv on craigslist with a copy of the diagnosis and sold it for $75 and went and bought another Panasonic which is still working just fine.
