My son just bought a new washer/dryer unit that you load it up and tell it to run. It notifies them on their phones when it finishes drying. So far it is working very well.
Heck, everything is on WiFi now. Even our new garage door opener. I get notifications every time it opens or closes.
I can open or close it from a thousand miles away or more if having internet access.

Mine garage door does also. Works out great when my wife asks me if the garage door went down.

Old appliances are most definitely superior. An uncle died in his 90s and his son's still using their original newlywed fridge for beer coolance. My old aunt gave me their old washer (new belt?)... and even years later, after hard use taking care of my old dog (I'll spare the gory details).... it's at least as heroic as my old fridge and old freezer.

I'm still kicking my own ass for selling my old washboard... Okay not really; but I have plenty of hard evidence that vintage appliances are your good friends, and don't mean to destroy you in any way.
Totally different from these creepy ass things made recently.

Back in business with the new Speed Queen washer / dryer set
We bought the middle tier of the top loading series, TR500 and DR500

Wash cycles run about 30 minutes compared to our old front loader taking 1 to 1 1/2 hours
Clothes come out of the new washer a lot wetter than they did out of the old front loader. Going to take a lot longer for clothes that we hang dry
Dryer does have a couple settings I may try, near dry and less dry that might work to get them to a point to finish hang drying without shrinkage effect.

Haven't tried the Normal / Eco setting on the washer that says it doesn't fill tub with water for final rinse, instead saying it spritzes clothes during final rinse and spin
Any SQ users here that use that ECO mode? IF so does it get soap out of clothes as good as filling tub with water for final rinse and spin?

I did reverse the swing of the dryer door for out layout

We have same Speed Queen units - flawless, trouble free, quiet running machines, worth every dime of retail….. but I lucked up and found them barely used on the Craigslist a few years ago for a price so low that I won’t mention.

I got a lime green fridge from my parents as a wedding gift. It went to the garage as a beer box after the new wife came into the picture.
When the fashion conscience wife saw white was out and stainless was in, we went stainless.
So, the lime green had to make room for the white.
7 lbs of Tannerite didn't make it go away. It created three hours of picking up insulation and scrap metal from a friend's pasture in 103-degree temperature.
Proper disposal of appliances is my mantra now.
