I'm really getting tired of setting the volume on a channel while watching a show and then it goes to commerical and it's blarring loud or if I change the channel to another it's blarring loud on that channel, then I change it to another channel and I can hardly hear it. There should be some kind of law to regulate the volume these networks are aloud to use. When I was a kid I never had to readjust the volume once it was set. Anybody else have this problem?:scream:

Yep. That's been a big pet peeve of mine for years. That's another reason I love my DVR. Even live shows, I'll pause them for a few minutes before watching, just so I can skip through the commercials. If I catch a commercial in live mode, I'll pause for a few more minutes and then skip through it.

Another problem I've noticed is that many shows and movies are created where the characters talk real soft, and the sound effects are REALLY LOUD. Drives me crazy.

My TV has setting to compensate for it; but it doesn't work very well.

I remember the days where paying for cable or satellite meant 'no commercials'. That was nice.

yea that pi$$e$ me off too. and before i got satellite, i noticed that those P.O.S. converter boxes seemed to lose signal anytime there was a breeze or a cloud in the sky, but never during commercials.

The loudness wars continue... recording engineers complain about this all the time, especially the guys in music. All the producers want VOLUME VOLUME VOLUME instead of harmonic quality.

A compressor will even it out, but they're hard to dial in if you're not experienced with them, and it's an unwarranted expense unless you watch tons of tv.

The FCC passed a law to stop the volume change for advertising last year,
don't know when it goes into effect.

The FCC doesn't pass laws. Dongress does.

The CALM Act was first introduced in 2008. It was reintroduced in 2009 as HR1084.

It passed the House on December 15, 2009, and has been in the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation since December 16, 2009.

So no, there isn't a law. (And there shouldn't be, either.)
