I would bet it did if that was the case. Saw a pic of the tanker today that hit them. It appeared it was unloaded as the bulbous bow was exposed above the waterline.
Prior to entering port every steering station is tested for functionality. Because if you have to use it, it's important it works.

No disrespect intended but from the perceived tone of your post, it may not have been her heart she was sharing.
