Ok I have gone through all the laws for Oklahoma and I can't find a clear answer. Someone told me they passed a new law that you could carry a loaded gun in your car without having a permit. Reason I ask is I have a permit and keep a gun in my truck plus the one I have on my hip. My girlfriend does not have a permit and drives my truck from time to time and I always have to go and unload it. Can someone confirm or deny this and give me a link to the law that supports this or doesn't. Thanks

She can not leagally have a loaded firearm in the car without you. She can have a loaded firearm in a car when you are present. Your license covers everyone in the car with you.

Prime example of why this forum continues to disappoint me. Dude comes in here asking a firearm related question and he gets a smartass 'google it' answer.

WAGS, did you flame me? Are you a FLAME THROWER? Good! I like a little contriteness! I Googled it and am posting it here.

Transporting FirearmsFollowing is the Oklahoma law regarding transport of firearms.

TITLE 21 § 1289.7. Firearms in vehicles
FIREARMS IN VEHICLES

Any person, except a convicted felon, may transport in a motor vehicle a rifle, shotgun or pistol, open and unloaded, at any time. For purposes of this section “open” means the firearm is transported in plain view, in a case designed for carrying firearms, which case is wholly or partially visible, in a gun rack mounted in the vehicle, in an exterior locked compartment or a trunk of a vehicle.

Any person, except a convicted felon, may transport in a motor vehicle a rifle or shotgun concealed behind a seat of the vehicle or within the interior of the vehicle provided the rifle or shotgun is not clip, magazine or chamber loaded. The authority to transport a clip or magazine loaded rifle or shotgun shall be pursuant to Section 1289.13 of this title.

Any person who is the operator of a vehicle or is a passenger in any vehicle wherein another person who is licensed pursuant to the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act, Sections 1 through 26 of this act, to carry a concealed handgun and is carrying a concealed handgun or has concealed the handgun in such vehicle, shall not be deemed in violation of the provisions of this section provided the licensee is in or near the vehicle

So, my take on it is that she can have a pistol in the car with her, in a gun case, unloaded, in open view. Not a big problem as a pistol can be loaded in two or three seconds if needs be.

So how 'bout them apples, Mr. WAGS? Mighty fine apples, I'd say!

I've wondered about this topic too. I lock my gun in a safe, inside the console when my daughter drives my truck. I 'assumed' since she doesn't know the combo it wouldn't be a problem. Sounds like I'm wrong.

I bought a small, exterior pistol safe last year and mounted it in the cab of my truck.

I just place a rag over it to make it inconspicious - I spell that right?
