Life isn't fair. Some win, some lose. If your willing to gamble and take a chance on winning, there's also a chance of loosing. That's america. The fairness is just being in a country that gives you the freedom to choose your path. Consumption tax is the really "fair" way.

If no one is entitled to success then why is there a lottery and casinos, It's a gamble and someone is entitled to win it.
Of course there is also taxes to level the playing field so that no one is as rich as they want to be!

I support the flat tax so that the middle class does not have to burden so much of the load.

That is a misconception and an Obama talking point. Not saying that's where you got it, but that's all the media spouts.

The bottom 75% of income earners would include the middle class pays only 14% of the federal income tax.

The top 1% of income earners pays 38% of federal income tax.

More people need to see these stats and quit following Obama's lead saying the rich don't pay enough.

That chart isn't particularly helpful is it since it doesn't show what share of the income went to each category?
If the top 1% earned 38% of the income it would be natural they would pay 38% of the taxes, wouldn't it?

In 2009, the top 1% ($344K+ AGI) earned 17% of the nation's income.

It's easy to make that in certain parts of the country, especially in a two-income household.

Good point. I think what it's sayin very few people pay most of the tax. I am going to see how much income the top 1% earn.
Edit - too late. Thanks veggie

Thank you.

My only point was that charts like that one from the heritage foundation are useless because they don't show the link between income level and taxes paid.
It's purely an emotional argument.

Note to add:

The top 1% is not at all homogenous as far as income and taxes paid.
A good portion of those taxes were paid by people, like some of our doctor friends on the forum here, who are making 300,000 and paying the top rate of 35% because they have earned income.
Other members of the top 1% exploit tax breaks, like Mr. Romney, and don't pay anything like the top rate.
We know from the release of Romney's tax returns he would have paid only 12% last year if he claimed all of his deductions.
