wont last... got corrosion or ? maby broken loose at lead joint if that old ?
First time I’ve heard of this method but I would try this first.I use E6000 for things I never want to mess with again.
Some silicone will rust metal so know that .
GE silicone 2 is supposed to be fine with metal.
I just go for the E6000 I use it on many things around the house.
Stinks for a couple weeks compared to silicone and you must allow about 72 hours for full cure but 48 hours in 70 temps works fine.
I have used it to repair a 1" slice in the sidewall of a 235-75-15 Goodyear wrangler tire.
I did 3 layers inside and out and allowed each to dry 48 hours and then stuck it on my trailer and wore the tread off of it.
Great stuff to have around.
It will bond to the steel and the rubber very well.
Are you sure it’s cast iron and not lead?

If that doesn’t work I would cut into the wall and put a 2x1 1/2” San t with ferncos and just replace the whole thing.
