What made you decide to get your CCW

Its been a hell of a week, my first semester of Medical school is comming to a close and its Finals week so i feel like this:

it's ok, wife says I have a stupid sense of humor! but what does she know anyways?







After that comment I may have to start posting in the "going on 3 days without getting any" thread.

Well I for one carried for a number of years before I got a permit. I decided it was just not the hassle I was going to have if I got caught.

Before I had a permit I was stopped by the police several times for speeding when I had my gun on me, since I am no threat to a officer I just kept my mouth shut.

Dad was a cop, and though he isn't the gunaholic that that people percieve cops to be, he still trained me to use a gun and the safety and maintenance that goes into owning one.

With that in mind, carrying a gun to me was no different than driving a car. .

Most cops are not gunalcoholics.
They are a tool to be used when necessary.
Its a credit to your dad that he passed on the safety and maintence to you.

I pull my keys out and drop them on the ground, and back up to a range of 5 yards and pull my gun and order him to the ground. He turns and bolts off into an apartment complex behind the store. I call police, but I didn't have a good description and nothing came of it.

Wow... That's badass! Had you ever thought of that or was it kind of a spur of the moment decision to act like you're carrying??

Basically it was a spur of the moment decision, devoped out of a desire to live. Bottom line.

What did the cops say about you pulling your weapon? Just curious.

Well I returned to the store, called the cops there and had the gun holstered in my Crossbreed Supertuck under my dress shirt.

Cops arrived in about 4 minutes upon contact (pretty quick!) and I had my license and CCW ID ready and cops met us in the store after doing a quick sweep. I gave them my story, handed them my IDs and they asked if I still had my gun on me and I said yes, its holstered (and pointed to my back) and the cop said thats pretty smart, and said I made the right move then but not to go for it now (with a laugh); handed me back my stuff. Finished the report, gave me a case number and we chatted for a little while afterwords and he asked me what I carried and I mentioned my dad and the G26 and all and my dad ended up being the guys PTO during his academy.

Ok, here is the bottom line.
Most criminals are cowards and will look for the person that is vulnerable.
If it is starting to happen to you, don't get aggressive, but don't act scared. This is what they are looking for.
No matter what info you get from anybody, each problem, attact, etc will be different. One has to be able to adapt to that situation.

How do we do that?
My thinking is that no matter where I'm at, I consider one thing....how in the heck to I get out of here.
Next thing, is where can I get cover.
Most shootings occur in crowded areas these days like malls etc.
I'm always looking at the exits, etc.
After awhile, it becomes second nature, but one has to always keep that in mind.....how can I get out of here....alive.

Mine is a pretty common one. After failing the psych test for the PD, I knew that it was my destiny to protect society even though some stupid testing thought I was a narcissistic egomaniac with delusions of grandeur. I cannot honestly believe that field dressing small animals as a child while playing with fire is not a normal part of growing up for all of us.

Realizing that I would eventually be responsible for heroic glory, I went to work for Mall Security, but they would not let me open carry my Hi Point while on duty. I am no idiot, and no that while my life and the lives of countless shoppers are worth more than a job, I chose to be discreet, and invest in my CCW, a Lorcin 25 with Hollow Point man stoppers. I got my CCL for the eventuality that will happen when I have to pop a cap in a banger or shoplifter. I had a custom holster made that masks the printing of my "little friend" and doubles as a badge holder for my CCL badge.
