Mine is a pretty common one. After failing the psych test for the PD, I knew that it was my destiny to protect society even though some stupid testing thought I was a narcissistic egomaniac with delusions of grandeur. I cannot honestly believe that field dressing small animals as a child while playing with fire is not a normal part of growing up for all of us.

Realizing that I would eventually be responsible for heroic glory, I went to work for Mall Security, but they would not let me open carry my Hi Point while on duty. I am no idiot, and no that while my life and the lives of countless shoppers are worth more than a job, I chose to be discreet, and invest in my CCW, a Lorcin 25 with Hollow Point man stoppers. I got my CCL for the eventuality that will happen when I have to pop a cap in a banger or shoplifter. I had a custom holster made that masks the printing of my "little friend" and doubles as a badge holder for my CCL badge.

LOL! Awesome:D

Your Avatar is an adequate description to match this statement.

Just too much bad crap happening. There's always something new in the news about an assault or armed robbery or breaking and entering, kidnapping, etc etc. I made the decision to be prepared as possible to defend myself and my family. Sounds cliche, but that's how it is.

My dad was a retired Marine DI,MP and then a cop; my grandfather and uncle were exMarines and retired as cops too. I boxed and practiced martial arts all thru school competing in both, carried knives back then. When I graduated highschool my dad gave me a Beretta 92F,I also had a S&W Model 28 6",a 12gg,a 4-10 pump, and a semi auto .22 rifle. I moved from San Diego to San Francisco after HS to go to art and music school but could only afford to live in Oakland because it was cheap to live there, so I nervously carried illegal as I lived in a pretty bad place in Oakland and figured almost every one else was carrying too. I finished art school then started an apprenticeship in a tattoo shop where I met my wife who was an artist there. We later got married and moved up north in the Sierra Nevada mountains to live in a house my family owned and we opened our own shop. Since I transported alot of cash to the bank from our business I applied to the sheriff of our country for my CC permit, and it took a bit of wrangling, but I got one. Later we moved to Las Vegas for a bit and I carried there, then we moved to Iowa to open another tattoo shop and I got my permit in Iowa because we were living there more than half the year. When I moved to Oklahoma after remarrying someone else I was living here and in Iowa and California but I was living in Oklahoma more than half of the year so I changed all of my stuff over- drivers license, vehicle tags,my CC permit, etc to Oklahoma.

Knew I was moving to the city and had just gotten out of the Army. Bought the first gun as a present to myself for my service. After getting to OK and realizing I was living in the 'ghetto' I figured it might be a good idea to get my CCW. I guess it boils down to the same thing some others have said, I just want to protect my family. It's a husband/dads job isn't it?

I was hearing more and more stories about assaults, robberies, and violent crimes on the news and that is what got the ball rolling. I started looking into it more and more. After hearing stories from my brother-in-law of what he deals with every night as a leo, I decided it was a good idea not only to carry, but to be more proactive and get trained and practice as often as possible.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday we went to my grandma's, she lives in a nice part of Edmond, but while we were there my uncle noticed that I was carrying (I guess my shirt rode up when I was playing with my daughter). He asked, what the heck is that for? I said, well I don't figure they are going to let me know when and where it is going to happen. This led into a pretty good conversation about carrying, and hopefully I have convinced him to go get his license and start carrying regularly. He is pro gun, just thinks the same way I used to, it would never happen to me.
