So a friend of mine owns an EV. He went to register it and they tacked on a $100 charge to the bill. When he asked the agent why the $100 extra, he was told the State charges EV owners because the don’t buy gas? Like wtf? The gooberment is promoting EV’s and now they don’t like it they aren’t getting tax money because EV owners aren’t buying gas? Is this even Constututional? Slimy at best….

Without the road tax collected with fuel purchase how do you think they can continue putting potholes in the highways?

Actually more to it than meets the eye. Is it the State charging the extra $100, or the Federal Government? Oklahoma gets 19 cents per gallon of diesel or gas. EV's in general are heavier than gasoline cars as well. The state of Oklahoma is not promoting EV's as far as I know, but the federal government is.

It should be $10,000 for the life of the vehicle. Yes, it's constitutional. Like those crackhead bicyclists, if you're going to use the road you need to help pay for it.

Well if they bought the right one, they're getting up to $7,500 in tax rebates, so what's $100?

Taxes on fuel factor heavily in Oklahoma's road maintenance programs, so an EV surcharge makes sense.

Do they still charge a gas guzzler tax on certain vehicles like the Corvette even though it got 29 MPG!

saw where one of the OK legislators wants a road tax law where you pay based on mileage you drive because of ev's not paying gas taxes.

Here's the other issue. Be prepared for a miles travelled tax when electric cars are more popular. ICE owners will not only pay state and federal taxes at the pump, they will get a GPS tracker to assess a tax on the number of miles and where traveled.

I sure don't want them raising the electric bill cause somebody's charging their car.
Make special size EV tires and tax them accordingly. $3500 per set tax is about what I pay in gas tax.
